WORLDWIDE, USA — As the leaves brown and temperatures drop, there is one facet of the liquor industry ramping up for its busiest months of the year. We’re talking, of course, about the Allspice Dram industry. Also known as ‘Pimento Dram,’ this potable booze really starts flowing as soon as jacket season begins.
“We like to think of ourselves as the Pumpkin Spice of the cocktail world. As far as we can tell, this is going to be our biggest year yet. We’re expecting to move at least several cases before the flowers bloom again,” a representative for the Aromatic Workers Union (AWU) told us over the phone this afternoon.
We caught up with a local bar manager to get their take on this seasonal shift.
“Oh yeah, we basically just put the word ‘Winter’ or ‘Autumn’ in front of a summer cocktail, throw a barspoon of Allspice in there, and call it a Fall menu. Winter Coladas, Autumn Sour, Rum Old Fashioned — ballpark, all day. We could go through a bottle, maybe even two this season. I’ve already started clearing out space in the liquor room for the delivery next Tuesday.”
